The Crystal Jewel

The other day, I was reminded of a recent visit to Questacon, our National Science and Technology Centre where my favourite exhibit involved swapping a rather large jewel with a bag of sand.

Sense-a-Swap

Swap a ‘diamond’ sitting on a pressure sensor with a bag of sand, so you don’t wake the statue

Much like the Indiana Jones movie, the skull (or in this case, diamond) was sitting on a pressure sensitive plate so you can see the similarities.

I admit I had to try this a couple of times but I’m happy to report I emerged victorious.

Meanwhile, it seems my NPC is getting a name change to something more fitting for a Blood Elf. Too bad I can’t just be an anomaly. :P

Ten Years in Azeroth

To celebrate the upcoming 10th Anniversary of WoW, Godmother has put together 1o Years, 10 Questions so we can all look back on our time in Azeroth.

teny-tenq

1. Why did you start playing Warcraft?
My brother had just started playing and while watching him do a few quests in the starting area, he showed me the cinematic trailer (which looked a little scary to me). Even so, he handed me one of his 10 day passes so I could try it out. I did and was hooked after the first couple of quests.

2. What was the first ever character you rolled?
A human pali which seemed like a fun character to play since she was melee with spells.

3. Which factors determined your faction choice in game?
I chose Alliance because it was the most normal looking race (and the one my brother played) although I didn’t know what server he was on at the time.

4. What has been your most memorable moment in Warcraft and why?
I’m not sure if it’s necessarily in-game but there have been many. The Thanksgiving Event in 2011 turned out to be a real turning point for me. It gave me the courage to post in a public forum and turned out to be a great opportunity to meet so many wonderful people from other realms and regions.

5. What is your favourite aspect of the game and has this always been the case?
When I first started playing my hunter, it was all about taming those rares and collecting silver dragon shots. Now I have so many other interests from collecting pets and achievements to transmog and treasure hunting.

6. Do you have an area in game that you always return to?
I find myself in Uldum quite a lot. I just love the zone from it’s Egyptian feel to the Harrison Ford questline.

7. How long have you /played and has that been continuous?
Since April 2005 and the only lapses in play have been from holidays where I’ve not had access to the game.

8. Admit it: do you read quest text or not?
I always like to read them through the first time (although that doesn’t always happen).

9. Are there any regrets from your time in game?
Some of the interactions with people.

10. What effect has Warcraft had on your life outside gaming?
It’s funny, I only started collecting nerdy t-shirts over the last year. Sometimes when I watch movies, I’m reminded by something in-game although it’s probably more correct to say it’s the other way around. Other than that I like to keep my gaming persona separate from RL. My friends and family know I play but don’t know much more than that.

There you go, short and sweet.

Darkmoon Faire – 6.0 Edition

There are several new additions to the Darkmoon Faire including a new challenger for pet battlers. In some regards, he’s Jeremy Feasel‘s twin but there are clear differences.

Look at me, now look at my horse, now look back at me, are I not the most impressive battler of pets that you have ever seen?

Look now at my compatriot over there. Is he on a horse? Of course not! Is his hat made of fireworks? Not in a million years! Everything about me is more impressive, from my coat color to my last name, which I made myself.

Dare you step up to the might of Christoph Willikens Dennis Ragnaros VonFeasel the First?

I can see you trembling!

Sound familiar?

Christoph VonFeasel

Christoph VonFeasel <Grand Master Pet Tamer>
Syd (Aquatic) – Water Jet, Whirlpool, Bubble
Mr. Pointy (Beast) – Impale, Trihorn Charge, Trihorn Shield
Otto (Beast) – Trample, Feed, Darkmoon Curse

Defeating him will give you a sack of Greater Darkmoon Pet Supplies which have a chance to contain Syd the Squid.

The battle wasn’t too bad, in fact it was rather amusing at the end but having to listen to the sound of that cow >.<

Tomorrow I’ll work on another team and probably use the opportunity to level up a certain familial pet each month after it hits live servers, just like his relative.

Firebird’s Challenge

A new daily requires you to fly through a series of rings (just like the Alysrazor fight in Firelands). The aim is to stack as many charges to your Wings of Flame buff before the buff falls off giving you only 10 seconds to reach the next ring. The challenge not only comes from knowing the route and anticipating which direction to go next, you’ll be competing with other players so timing is everything.

Firebirds Challenge rings

There are three achievements associated with the daily:

The last achievement rewards a pair of Blazing Wings but in the meantime, here’s what you can expect.

Racing-Treck

A racing circuit involves a series of quests like First Test Race: 1 Lap where you’re required to hit certain markers along the route. A number of spring and teleporting boosts can help you while zeppelins are designed to hinder. The Powerup Pitstop located next to the quest giver can even summon rabbits who taunt.

Erinys

Head down into the Cavern of Lament at ~74, 38, right under the submerged shipwreck, previously known as the underwater cavern. Kill one of the elites named Erinys to loot Broken Promises where you’ll receive a Ring of Broken Promises as a reward.

Noblewoman

Also of note is the new vendor called Chester who sells vestments and oddities. At the moment he only stocks two items:

I’ll be sure to buy both items when the time comes. I may even wear it with my High Society Top Hat.
